Information

Problem

P4V 2012.1 fails to start on Windows 7 after a fresh install because MSVCP100.dll is missing.

Solution

When P4V is installed as a non-admin user the following pop-up message will be displayed during the installation:

  Perforce Visual Components - 2012.1

One or more of the products you are attempting to
install require system files that you do not have
permission to install. If these programs fail to initialize
after installation have an administrator install the
Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package.

  [ OK ]

The installation will complete successfully without any further error messages. However, when trying to start P4V before an administrator has installed the 'Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package' on the system the following message will be displayed:

  p4v.exe - System Error

The program can't start because MSVCP100.dll is missing from your
computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

and P4V will not start.

There are two ways to resolve this problem, as follows:

1)  Ask an administrator to install the 'Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package'. It is available for download (free) from the Microsoft Download Center.

2) Re-run the P4V installer using a user account with administrator privileges. This can be done either by logging on directly as the admin user, or by selecting the P4V installer in Windows Explorer and choosing 'Run as administrator' from the right-click context menu.
