Problem

Where can I find the release notes for my product version?

Solution

The release notes for currently supported products can be found on the Perforce website and on the Perforce FTP site.

FTP

The top-level for documentation and applications/installers is ftp://ftp.perforce.com/perforce/. This contains release-specific folders, such as 'r15.2' for the 2015.2 releases. Release notes are in a sub-directory 'doc/user'. For example, the 2015.2 release notes can be found here:

ftp://ftp.perforce.com/perforce/r15.2/doc/user/

Navigating to the same sub-directory structure in a different "rXX.Y" folder should bring you to the corresponding release notes. Note that the ftp site does not contain a complete set of all release notes. If your version is not available, please contact Perforce Software's Technical Support team for assistance.

Web

The Perforce website only links to the release notes for the latest release. The current release notes for all products are linked from the following page:
https://www.perforce.com/support/release-notes

For example, the latest Perforce Server (P4D) release notes are found here:

http://www.perforce.com/perforce/doc.current/user/relnotes.txt

In order to access older release notes from the website, you must replace 'doc.current' string with the appropriate string for the release version of interest.
Note that there are two URL formats: one for releases up to and including 2009.2, and one for 2010.1 and later. For example, for version 2009.2 and earlier releases, replace '/doc.current' with '/doc.092':

http://www.perforce.com/perforce/doc.092/user/relnotes.txt

Beginning with version 2010.1, the website URL format changed to user the /rNN.N syntax. For example:

http://www.perforce.com/perforce/r10.2/user/relnotes.txt

Installed release notes

On Windows, the release notes can also be found in your product installation directory. For example, after a default install, the release notes for "P4, the Perforce Command-Line Client, and P4D, the Perforce Server" are found here:

C:\Program Files\Perforce\relnotes.txt

For P4V, the Perforce Visual Client, the default location is:

C:\Program Files\Perforce\p4vnotes.txt
